It is no surprise that this screen is not top of the line. I didn't expect that when I paid just over $100 for it. However, overall I found this screen to be very good for the price with only a few minor issues and some positives as well.
Pros:
The screen's large display is nice for everyone in the back to see clearly whether they are in the middle row or rear. The swivel feature is nice to allow the passenger to verify DVD menus (since the front screen will not show the video while in motion). Resolution is great. I know it is only 800x600, but for those of you who would like to educate yourselves, DVD's played through composite video cables (yellow, red, and white cables) will only output 800x600 anyway, so it's a waste to get a higher resolution screen... besides... you are watching a movie in a vehicle! Two inputs are nice. I have one input dedicated to my Pioneer AVIC BT900 DVD, Navigation receiver and the other connection is used for the Wii.
Cons:
While the metal mounting plate is solid enough, the plastic needs a tad bit more reinforcement where the monitor connects. The screen has a very small amount of "bounce" to it while driving. The dome lights built into it must be turned on by a switch on the back of the screen... not really an issue, but would be nice to wire into other lights so it comes on when the doors open. Viewing angle is rather low, anything much beyond a 45 degree angle from the screen reverses colors. Not too much of an issue though for passengers in the vehicle since everyone's seats are within the viewing area.
Installation:
Instructions included with this unit are worthless. Do a quick search online for other installation instructions. For myself, I spent roughly an hour and a half installing the screen, but I am rather cautious about cutting or screwing anything in my beautiful cars. I do however, recommend purchasing a 12Volt Diode Regulator to help with the power into the monitor. Although most vehicles have a 12volt system, when the vehicle is running, the alternator can produce upwards of 14volts and this could fry the monitor. The Diode Regulator costs around $3 and is very simple to use, just wire it in between the power source and the monitor and it does the rest.
Conclusion:
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone interested in purchasing a nice, large screen for their vehicle to help quell the screaming children on long road trips. If you are uncomfortable installing it yourself, have a professional do it.
