The PackRight Sport Jr. is the only car top carrier designed specifically for compact cars without luggage racks. The included Car Clip Strap Set has 2 nylon straps with rubber coated hooks that attach to the vehicle’s door frame. If your vehicle does not have a good door ledge, you can remove the hooks and run the straps through the inside of the vehicle. With the hooks removed, the Sport Jr. can also be used with a luggage rack. Adding the Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad will help hold the carrier in place. Like all PackRight Sport Car Top Carriers, the Sport Jr. is aerodynamically designed to help save at the gas pump. The carriers are constructed of 600D Hydrotuff material, a UV resistant, waterproof PVC backed polyester. The waterproof ZipRight zipper is urethane coated and located on the protective flap to keep your gear dry. It unzips 3/4 of the way around the bag to provide a large opening for easy loading. Okay I wanted to write a chronicle mainly to help someone install it on your vehicle. I have an Impala with no roof racks. I purchased the mat for underneath the carrier (which is categorically necessary). I had read from some other reviews that it was easy to install so I waited to shape it out until we had to pack all things for camping. The directions were categorically horrible. They contain directions for 3 distinct models and don't go very in depth about how to install it without roof racks. If you have roof racks well the directions are approximately the whole page!
Firstly you need to place the mat on the car and cut any access mat that is not underneath the carrier. Next fill the carrier with as much as you can but make sure you are able to zip it up and still have the velcro able to close up. You will observation that in order to make sure the velcro is in use you can't fully pack it and it will seem like there is a small space on top that could be filled. Do not be fooled, once you close it up that space is gone. After it is closed and sealed, take one strap and put it over the top of the carrier bag. The clips will need to go straight through the buckle on each side. It required a small forcing (almost like it's not supposed to go through). Next you need to find a place in your car where the clip will clip on to. A sturdy part of your car. It could be the door frame when the window is down, or right inside the car. I had to take off the molding nearby the top inside of the car. Inside the molding (which just clips or unclips in place) was the excellent size for the strap clip to hold on to. Do not be scared to take off the molding like I was, it was made to come on and off easily. After both sides are attached to the car just pull the strapping as hard as you can until it is super tight. Make sure to use both straps (one in front and one in back) so they will be going straight through both the front door and the back door. With the extra strapping after it's tightened you need to shut it inside the car when you are done. Otherwise if there is strapping it will flap nearby and sound like a thunderstorm when you are driving. I did not shape out how to use the strapping without the clips- to me it seemed like it would just not work.
I would have given 5 stars for the product because it was affordable and it did exactly what I needed. I packed 4 folding chairs, 3 luggage bags and extras in the carrier. It did not budge once I figured out how to use it. The only thing I did not like was the directions. Do a practice run and try to shape out how it will attach to your car ahead of time.
